The Editor’s Note

As 2023 comes to an end, Turkey Toss, our annual employee engagement experience, signals a countdown to the end of the year with a bit of anticipation for what the new year will bring.

This year’s Turkey Toss was a record-breaking event for our team. With 30+ volunteers on hand, we seamlessly handed out turkeys, Tofurkys, and gifts to nearly 2,000 employees. This hybrid experience presented attendees the opportunity to walk through our lovely campus and join us in the Sarratt Art Gallery for tasty treats and beverages made available by Vanderbilt Catering, chat with new and familiar colleagues, learn about campus resources, and pick up their preferred choice of the three items offered. A drive-through option just outside of the art gallery in Sarratt Circle was available for those who preferred to pick up, whether for themselves or a team of colleagues.

At the end of the day, we proudly handed out every turkey, Tofurky and gift that was made available to faculty, staff, and post docs. In total, we gave away:

• 1,568 turkeys
• 102 Tofurkys
• 1,000 gifts

We offer our deepest gratitude to all staff, campus partners, and participants involved in this year’s Turkey Toss. 

Best wishes to all of our VU colleagues on ending the year on a high note and ushering in a new year with new opportunities to learn and grow.
