International and American Student Bridge

As International students, we can sometimes have unique challenges with language barriers and cultural differences. We recognize it can be anxiety-provoking for everyone to talk to people with different backgrounds. Therefore, we are building a platform for international students and American students to share their thoughts and feelings towards socializing with each other.

Come get a cup of bubble tea and leave a note card to let people know how you think and feel about connecting with someone with different backgrounds. We hope to create a community where everyone feels belonged and is connected.

Our grant is focused on preparing leaders who understand the needs of linguistically diverse students at risk for or with disabilities (from hereon LDSD) who overwhelmingly have intersecting identities as racial/ethnic minorities and as students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Tennessee is a new destination state experiencing unprecedented growth in the population of students from linguistically diverse homes, including LDSD. UCC Drop-In Consultation is generally helpful for students who 1) are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a counselor, 2) may not be interested in ongoing therapy but would like the perspective of a counselor, 3) have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with a counselor, or 4) have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do.

Students who are experiencing an immediate mental health emergency are encouraged to attend UCC Urgent Care, instead of Drop-In Consultation. For any questions about UCC Drop-In Consultation, please call 615-322-2571.
