LIVE Lunch Series

LIVE is an interdisciplinary center for learning technology that focuses on research and applications to technology in support of consequential learning. We support research and the development of ideas for application of learning technology with corporate and community partners. The LIVE lunch series is a diverse series of presentations, interactions, and discussions each week. Pizza is provided.

Role & Soul Alignment: What is it and how do I get there?

Join Meaghan Mundy, Assistant Dean of Peabody’s Office of Student Engagement and Well-Being and faculty member in Human and Organizational Development, as she leads a conversation about how aligning our roles in our lives with our purpose and inner-knowing can lead to greater authenticity and fulfillment. Meaghan is a certified CliftonStrengths coach and is currently participating in the Center for Courage and Renewal’s facilitator preparation program. This program is part of the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center’s Work-Life Balance workshop series.

Drop-in Care with SCC

Student Care Coordination Drop-in meetings are offered so that students can meet quickly with a care coordinator to discuss any immediate needs, including but not limited to:

  • Planning for a successful semester
  • Identifying and connecting with resources for support on or off-campus
  • Discussing academic options, taking a Medical Leave of Absence (MLOA), and/or assistance with communicating with faculty/Dean’s office
  • Connecting with the University Counseling Center (UCC) Drop-in care coordination meetings are not therapy or counseling, but we can help you get connected to counseling on or off-campus!

Nashville PEER Brown-Bag & Jam (PB&J)

Join the Nashville Partnership for Educational Equity Research (PEER) for a meet and greet with members from the Research, Assessment, and Evaluation team at Metro Nashville Public Schools.

During this session, you will learn about the research review process for new proposals and what data are available through MNPS, and have an opportunity to ask questions about how you can best collaborate with district leaders. Featured panelists include:

K-12 educators and Vanderbilt students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn more about our upcoming community-wide initiative and events to support the teaching and reading of banned books.  We hope this space provides an opportunity to network and meet with others who are interested in navigating these challenges to make banned books more accessible to students, teachers and community members.  Attendees will also be entered for the chance to win a banned book!  We hope you will join us, and we look forward to seeing you there! Banned Books Initiative – Panel Discussion

Narrative Circles for Graduate & Professional Students

For Peabody Professional & Graduate Students, the Narrative Circles approach is distinguished by principles and practices of narrative theory intended to create a shared exploration where each individual’s multi-storied self is affirmed. A welcoming and safe space is created for affirmation and connection across lines of difference so that we learn to take a values-based approach to how we exist and interact with each other. The workshops also provide an opportunity for professional development and anyone participating in 3 or more sessions will receive a certificate. Dinner will be provided, so please be sure to RSVP!

Higher Education and Latinx Individuals: Journey to (No)Where?

Join PLASA to learn more about the barriers that often prevent Latinx and other marginalized students from attaining a higher education. Gini Pupo-Walker, the State Director of The Education Trust, will join us as the featured speaker. The following topics may be discussed: the school-to-prison pipeline, the percentage of Latinx individuals with a master’s degree, and the retention of Latinx students in higher education. Book Event with Professor Ilana Horn

Join Professor Ilana Horn and co-author Brette Garner (University of Denver) for a discussion of their new book, Teacher Learning of Ambitious and Equitable Mathematics Instruction: A Sociocultural Approach. The two will be joined by Susan Jurow (University of Colorado) and Justin Reich (MIT) for a rich conversation about the authors’ study of experienced teachers’ learning and the implications for sociocultural theory and teacher education.

Peabody Research Spotlight

The Peabody Research Spotlight (PRS) series is designed to showcase research conducted by Peabody Ph.D. faculty, students, and alumni, and to facilitate and strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations.

The session will feature new Peabody College faculty members. Each faculty member will provide a brief overview of their program of research. This session is intended to encourage within and across departmental collaborations, as well as to provide prospective Ph.D. students with an overview of the exciting research conducted at Peabody. Each presentation will be followed by a brief Q&A period.

University Counseling Center (UCC) Drop-in Consultation for International and APIDA-identifying Students

UCC Drop-In Consultation provides easy access to informal, confidential, and free consultations with University Counseling Center counselors.

UCC Drop-In Consultation is generally helpful for students who 1) are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a counselor, 2) may not be interested in ongoing therapy but would like the perspective of a counselor, 3) have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with a counselor, or 4) have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do.

Students who are experiencing an immediate mental health emergency are encouraged to attend UCC Urgent Care, instead of Drop-In Consultation. For any questions about UCC Drop-In Consultation, please call 615-322-2571.

Tutor Nashville

The Accelerating Scholars program is recruiting community volunteers to tutor more than 7,000 MNPS students who may need a little extra help and support with personalized and positive learning experiences. Tutors will receive training and support on all tutoring session plans and materials. Virtual and in-person opportunities are available.
