DOS Staff Awards

The Dean of Students Staff Awards will take place April 19, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm in the Student Life Center Ballroom. Chancellor Diermeier will speak at 9:30 am and a buffet lunch will follow the ceremony.

DOS Name Tag Order

If you need a new or updated Dean of Students name tag, the next order will be placed on April 8, 2022. To be added to the order, please email Katie Muir (katherine.muir@vanderbilt.edu) with your Name, Credentials, Job Title, Department, and Pronouns (optional).

Nominate your University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) Representative (Group 18)

The University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) represents staff across the campus community who are in non-union-eligible positions. Submit your name as a candidate to run for election to become a USAC representative and/or nominate an enthusiastic co-worker. Membership requires a commitment to attend a monthly meeting (8:30 to 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month) and be a voice for your co-workers. Elected representatives serve a two-year term. Follow this link to submit yourself and/or up to 5 candidates to represent your group. To complete your entry, be sure to click submit for approval on the review submission page. Learn more about USAC membership by visiting the USAC website.

Deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6th.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Project Safe Center staff are hosting a variety of events throughout the month to raise awareness about prevention efforts as well as the impact of sexual violence in the Vandy Community. We will kick off the month of events in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence with our Lantern Decoration Party on April 1, 2022 from 2-5 pm on the Alumni Hall Terrace. Participants will be able to display these lanterns all month and bring them to participate in the Prevention Procession later in the month. The calendar has all of our SAAM events listed.

The “Suite Life” at Bridgestone Arena

Vanderbilt University is offering faculty and staff a chance to enjoy the “suite life” at Bridgestone Arena in April. Full-time and part-time benefits-eligible faculty and staff may enter to win two tickets to an event at the arena. Winners will be notified one week prior to the event. The Commodore Way: Perspectives on Success in Vanderbilt Athletics: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. CT

Now More than Ever: Higher Education’s Essential Role in an Age of Disruption: 2 to 3 p.m. CT

Both panels will be held in the Student Life Center Ballroom and are open to the public. Refreshments will be served after each event.

Tennessee: Engine of Innovation Symposium
The symposium will explore the future of Tennessee and the Southeast region, and Vanderbilt’s role in advancing discovery and innovation across a variety of sectors. The symposium will be livestreamed for the campus community and the public. 4:30 to 6 p.m. CT

Investiture Ceremony
Due to space limitations, in-person attendance is by invitation only. The entire Vanderbilt community of students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters is invited to attend virtually. 1 to 3 p.m. CT

Community Celebration
All Vanderbilt community members and guests are invited to attend the community celebration on Alumni Lawn featuring live music and activities. 3 to 6 p.m. CT

MLK Joint Day of Service

The MLK Joint Day of Service brings together hundreds of student volunteers from Nashville-area colleges and universities to continue the dream of Dr. King through service. Volunteers can select from a variety of service projects throughout the city. Volunteers should register at vu.edu/serviceday2022. Read more details on Anchor Link. Native/Indigenous Graduates Recognition Ceremony

The Native/Indigenous Graduates Recognition Ceremony is a recognition ceremony held once a year by the Native/Indigenous community at Vanderbilt to celebrate the achievements and successes of all graduating Native/Indigenous students. The ceremony serves as a unique space for students to pay homage to family, friends, faculty, staff, and administrators who have supported their journeys. With food, music, graduation stoles, guest speakers, student awards, and photo opportunities, we invite all to join us in this fun and family-oriented celebration! Please note that this celebration is held in addition to formal graduation events and is not a substitute for the official commencement ceremony. Registration is a requirement for participation. The form must be completed by April 30th at 11:59pm. Please email Brittany Pomilee, SCSJI Program Coordinator (brittany.n.pomilee@vanderbilt.edu) with any questions.

Student Engagement Events with Dean Black

Prior to Spring Break, Dean Black hosted a tabling event with the International Student Council and Project Safe Center to wish students a safe and fun Spring Break and pass out swag and treats. Dean Black will be hosting a similar event on April 29 with the Undergraduate Honor Council and the Office of Housing and Residential Experience to wish students good luck on final examinations. Graduate Career Closet

This event will be co-sponsored by the BRET Office of Career Development ASPIRE Program, the Career Center, and the Women’s Center. The Gradate Career Closet is an opportunity for students to get free interview ready clothes provided by faculty, staff, and fellow students. For more information, click here.

 


DOS Staff Accomplishments

Ulises Marchante earns Security Pro Certification

Ulises has earned the Security Pro Certification after months of study on his own time. This course has helped him further understand network security (the back door of our physical access control system) and will be applied towards electronic security systems design, maintenance, and integration projects. Congratulations, Ulises!


DOS Superstar 

Will Husted, Graduate Assistant, DOS Central

Will Husted has spent the last 3 months managing the recruitment process for the DOS and Provost graduate assistants. He has been the main contact for prospective students, created schedules and sign-up templates for interviews, and navigated the matching process all while continuing to provide support and resources to our current GA program. Thank you for your dedication to our graduate students! We are lucky to have you on the Central team.

DOS Staff Announcements

Congratulations, Lisa!

Effective April 1, Lisa Clapper will become Director of the Student Care Network. In this position, she will continue her work liaising with VUMC, refining systems and processes that allow the Network to run efficiently, assisting in the management of DOS agreements with external providers, and serving as the face of the Network for faculty, staff, and students. She will work closely with Neil Jamerson, Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Student Support, to operationalize the strategic plans for the Network. She will assume supervision of new Network administrative staff. Lisa will continue in her role as Director of the Office of Student Care Coordination with additional staffing to allow for her to dedicate time to her Student Care Network role.
