Nourishing Heads & Hearts Series: Nutrition Workshops 

Nourishing Heads & Hearts Series with the VUMC Dietetic Internship program

Presented by The Dietetic Internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and hosted by Peabody Office of Student Engagement & Well-Being we invite you to participate in our Nourishing Heads & Hearts series. We are excited to highlight our final two sessions below and we encourage you to also sign-up for a 1-on-1 Independent Study Session!

Nutrition 301: Eating for Success – Brain, Body, Energy, Productivity
This session takes an in-depth look at the interconnectedness of health and nutrition, identifying ways your diet can fuel you to succeed. Recognizing the challenge of balancing personal, professional, and academic commitments, focus will be placed on goal setting and identifying realistic ways you can incorporate health behaviors into your lifestyle to achieve success, in whatever way success is defined for you.

Nutrition 401: Intuitive Eating: Listening for What Your Body Needs
Have you heard about intuitive eating or have curiosity about its principles? Intuitive eating is a philosophy of eating that views you as the expert of your body and its hunger signal. This session will identify the potential benefits of intuitive eating and explore ways that you can incorporate this self-care eating framework into your relationship with food.

Independent Study Session (a 20-30 minute 1-on-1 wellness coaching and question session): 
If you have multiple questions about the nutrition topic or would like an individual nutrition and wellness session with one of the VUMC Dietetic Interns, sign up for an “Independent Study”. These Independent Study sessions are 20-30 minutes in length and will provide the opportunity for you to receive more personalized nutrition information. RSVP here.

Turner Family Center for Social Ventures (TFC): Cafe Momentum Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion 

Café Momentum is an award-winning nonprofit restaurant and culinary training facility whose mission is to help our community’s justice-involved youth achieve their full potential by equipping them with life skills, education and employment opportunities. Coming to Nashville in 2022!

Join us in welcoming Guest Speaker, Rokeisha Bryant, Café Momentum Nashville’s Founding Executive Director with a Documentary Screening: Building Momentum (Trailer here.)

Rokeisha Bryant, Founding Executive Director of Café Momentum Nashville, is a Peabody alumna (Human Development & Counseling ‘07) and youth development professional focused on evidence-based practices that enable young people to thrive. Prior to joining Café Momentum, Rokeisha served in several capacities at Oasis Center, designed to amplify youth voices. She has served as an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College and the program manager for the Reaching Excellence As Leaders (REAL) Program, in addition to volunteering her time on multiple boards across the city.

Common Grounds

Common Grounds Coffee/Tea Pairing Program provides the Peabody community with the opportunity to connect through random pairings. Over 200 Peabody community members participated last month!

This is an easy, no-pressure way to make a new connection in the Peabody community. And, if you get busy, just let us know and you can join back in (or not) at any time!

How it works:
1) Sign up by Friday, November 5 by 11:59 p.m.
2) Receive a random partner the following week. 
3) Reach out to your partner and plan a convenient time to connect over coffee or tea via Zoom or in-person with a socially distanced meeting
4) Receive a new pairing each month!

Book Discussion with Professor Chris Loss: Robert’s Rules of Order, and Why It Matters for Colleges and Universities Today

Join us for an engaging book discussion with Professor Chris Loss, who explains why Robert’s simple, elegant handbook to democratic governance captured the imagination of so many ordinary citizens during the Gilded Age and how it has shaped the development of our colleges and universities ever since. He shows how Robert’s rules can help faculty, administrators, and students to solve problems and overcome challenges through collaboration, disciplined thinking, trust in the facts, and honesty and fairness from all sides. Peabody Research Spotlight

The Peabody Research Spotlight (PRS) series is designed to showcase research conducted by faculty and Ph.D. students at Peabody College, and to facilitate and strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations. The series is open to prospective Peabody Ph.D. students as well.

The session will feature research labs across all five Peabody departments. Each faculty member will provide a brief overview of the work conducted in their research lab. Each presentation will be followed by a brief Q&A period.

We are looking for potential speakers for the Dean’s Diversity Lecture for the 2021-2022 academic year, and would love to have your recommendations. These recommendations will be collected by the Faculty Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, who will review the recommendations and collectively suggest 2-3 speakers for the Dean to choose from.
