Inaugural Peabody Research Spotlight

The new Peabody Research Spotlight (PRS) series is designed to showcase research conducted by faculty and PhD students at Peabody College, and to facilitate and strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations. The series is open to prospective Peabody PhD students as well. The session will consist of presentations by five faculty members, representing all Peabody departments. Each presenter will provide a brief overview of their program of research or of a new research project(s). Each presentation will be followed by a brief Q&A period.

Building Young Students’ Vocabulary and Comprehension through Interactive Read-Alouds

Begin with Books presents Dr. Sonia Cabell, a professor from FSU specializing in children’s literacy. She will discuss her work in the field, highlighting the importance of conversational interactions with primary-grade students for the development of academic language skills necessary for proficient reading comprehension. Research shows that content-rich, interactive read-alouds help build these skills. Participants will learn about the research in this area as well as specific techniques to provide high quality read-aloud experiences.
