W. Douglas Parker, Jr.
Chairman & CEO of American Airlines
Doug Parker received his undergraduate degree from Albion College in 1984 after which he earned an MBA at the Owen Graduate School of Business at Vanderbilt in 1986.
Mr. Parker is chairman and chief executive officer of American Airlines Group, the largest airline in the United States. American Airlines Group was created by a merger between US Airways Group and American Airlines, finalized in 2013. Mr. Parker was instrumental in the merger, having served as chairman and chief executive officer of US Airways Group since 2005. Prior to heading US Airways, he was Chairman and CEO of America West.
At Vanderbilt, Mr. Parker is on the Board of Visitors of the Owen Graduate School of Management and the Parents Leadership Committee. He received the 2017 Alumni Professional Achievement Award, the 2004 Owen Distinguished Alumnus Award, and was the 2013 Owen Commencement speaker. He and his wife, Gwen have established The Rev. James M. Lawson Jr. need-based scholarship at Vanderbilt and an Innovation in Leadership scholarship at the Owen Graduate School of Management.
