John R. Ingram

John R. Ingram was elected to a third term on the Vanderbilt Board in 2014. He graduated from Princeton University in 1984 after which he earned a MBA from Vanderbilt in 1986.

Mr. Ingram is the Chairman of Ingram Industries Inc. and Chairman of Ingram Content Group, a division which focuses on physical and digital content services in the book industry. He joined Ingram Industries in 1986, serving in increasingly responsible roles early in his career. In the early 90’s, he moved to Southern California and then to Europe working for Ingram Micro. Mr. Ingram returned back to Nashville and became the predecessor to Ingram Content Group in 1995.  He was a member of the Ingram Micro Board from 1996 until its sale in late 2016. Mr. Ingram was named Chairman of the Ingram Industries Inc. Board of Directors in 2008, having served as Vice Chairman of the Board since 1999.  

Mr. Ingram and his wife, Stephanie (Vanderbilt ‘85) were founding benefactors of Currey Ingram Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee. Mr. Ingram also has provided financial support and served on numerous other national and local non-profits including the National Center for Learning Disabilities, the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, The Harpeth Hall School, and Montgomery Bell Academy.

Mr. Ingram has participated philanthropically across the Vanderbilt campus with a particular passion for athletics, most recently providing lead gifts for the Vanderbilt Recreation Center and Multipurpose Facility Expansion and the renovations of the McGugin Center Training Room and Vanderbilt Baseball Facilities.

As an avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Ingram was the lead investor to direct the effort to bring Major League Soccer to Nashville. In December of 2017, the MLS Board of Governors awarded the city of Nashville an expansion team, a huge success for the city and Nashville soccer fans.

Mr. Ingram and his wife, Stephanie reside in Nashville with their four children.
