Corey E. Thomas

Corey Thomas was elected to the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust in 2019. He received his B.E. degree from Vanderbilt in 1998 and MBA from Harvard Business School in 2002.

 

Mr. Thomas is chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Rapid7, a cybersecurity company.  In 2018, he was elected to the Cyber Threat Alliance (CTA) Board of Directors and the Massachusetts Cybersecurity Strategy Council.  He serves on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board of Directors, sitting on its audit and health care quality and affordability committees.  He also serves on the LPL Financial Board of Directors, sitting on the Audit Committee.  In 2016, he was appointed to the U.S. Commerce Department’s Digital Economy Board of Advisors and resigned in 2017 to denounce “bigotry, racism, hate and violence, and to respect diversity and uphold the values of an inclusive America.”  Mr. Thomas is one of seventeen co-founders of Pillar, a venture capital firm that invests in and supports entrepreneurs.    Prior to joining Rapid7, he was vice president of marketing at Parallels, Inc., a virtualization technology company; group project manager of the Microsoft Server and Tools division, steering product planning for Microsoft’s data platform; and a consultant at Deloitte Consulting. 

 

At Vanderbilt, Mr. Thomas participated in the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni reunion in 2000, the 2011 Boston Summer Send-off Party, the 2018 School of Engineering Board of Visitors Meeting and 2018 Reunion.  Mr. Thomas supports the Engineering Dean’s Discretionary Fund and the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center
