Spectrophotometry

Transmittance, T, is used to quantify the amount of light a solution will absorb.  It is the ratio of radiant power transmitted by a solution, P, to the initial radiant power of the light source, Po.  Since it is a ratio, transmittance is a unit-less number.

(T = P/Po)
