Updates from the IHI National Forum, December 5-8, 2010

Posted by on Friday, December 17, 2010 in Blog, Our Blog and Digest.

We recently returned from the IHI National Forum in Orlando, FL and have some great news to share:

1. We made the IHI Annual Report! There is a great spread with a photo of us and article about us in the report, which was under everyone’s seat at the National Forum’s first keynote address. See pages 20-21 in the 2011 IHI Annual Report “Leading the New Way.”

2. Our “Fundamentals of Quality Improvement in Health Care” elective was recognized at the Academy for Healthcare Improvement (AHI) International Scientific Symposium on Improving the Quality and Value of Health Care, which preceded the IHI National Forum in Orlando, FL. We received special recognition for a student submission for the Duncan Neuhauser Curricular Innovation Award. Thank you to the AHI for this incredible honor!

3. We were proud to be one of 11 IHI Open School chapters selected to present our accomplishments at the Open School Chapter Congress.

4. We presented a total of five posters at the IHI National Forum poster session, which received a substantial amount of interest from Forum attendees;
“The Vanderbilt Healthcare Improvement Group: A Chapter of the IHI Open School for Health Professions”
“Fundamentals of Quality Improvement in Health Care: An Interdisciplinary Elective”
“The Quality Improvement Practicum: An Elective for Senior Medical Students”
“Electronic Checklist in the Operating Room Increases Surgical Team Compliance with Pre-Incision Safety Practices”
“Patient Satisfaction Survey at the Shade Tree Clinic: A Tool for Quality Improvement Measures in a Student-Run Clinic”

We look forward to sharing our successes in the future. On behalf of the Vanderbilt Healthcare Improvement Group,

Piotr P. Pilarski, VMS IV
Co-Leader, Vanderbilt Healthcare Improvement Group, a chapter of the IHI Open School for Health Professions
