VINSE Cleanroom Tool Training and Qualification Procedure

The user wishing to be trained on a tool is referred to as the “trainee” in this document. To use a tool independently, the trainee MUST complete the following steps. Under NO circumstances is someone to operate a tool before they receive authorization, hereby referred to as “qualification”, from a VINSE staff member.

Procedure for a trainee to be qualified to use a tool independently:

The trainee should consult the VINSE Cleanroom Tool Assignment document to determine if a student Superuser is listed for the tool:

  • If a student Superuser is listed for the tool then the trainee should contact the Superuser to schedule in-person training on the tool. It is likely that training will occur while the Superuser is conducting processing on their own sample. However, the trainee should ask if they are expected to bring their own sample for training.
  • If a student Superuser is NOT listed in the VINSE Cleanroom Tool Assignment document then the trainee should contact the staff member listed for the tool for in-person training. It is likely that training will occur using a sample from the trainee. Thus, training should not be scheduled until this sample is ready for processing.

In either case, the trainee MUST COMPLETE A QUALIFICATION EXAM WITH VINSE STAFF TO USE THE TOOL INDEPENDENTLY. The staff member that will administer this exam is the one listed for the tool in the VINSE Cleanroom Tool Assignment document. It is likely that qualification will occur using a sample from the trainee. Thus, the qualification exam should not be scheduled until this sample is ready for processing.
