Master’s in Data Science at Vanderbilt

A 9-month, 30-credit, on-campus M.S. in Data Science. Four intensive modules from August to May, graduate in May and launch faster.

Next deadline to apply: January 15th, 2026. The Round 1 deadline is our priority deadline for scholarships.

Program Highlights

Vanderbilt’s M.S. in Data Science (30 credits) blends computer science, statistics, and business practices—delivered fully in person.

The curriculum runs across four intensive modules (August–May). You’ll move from foundations to advanced applications quickly.

A capstone is required (recorded on your transcript, no credit hours) and integrated into your course schedule.

What's a Capstone?

An internship or experiential project is optional but encouraged and may fulfill elective credit with approval.

You will graduate being able to:

  • Build end-to-end computational pipelines for high-dimensional data.

  • Select, train, and explain machine learning and statistical models.

  • Visualize results clearly and communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Work reproducibly in open-source environments.

  • Anticipate ethical, privacy, and policy implications of data use.
