Two Opportunities, Nominations due in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Faculty, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/writing\/faculty\/\">Writing Studio is always here for you and your students<\/a>, but now it\u2019s the time of the academic year when the Writing Studio needs your help: It\u2019s nomination season!<\/p>\n<p>Between now and January we are calling for faculty to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/writing\/faculty\/nominations\/#UWSnom\">Nominate student writing for this spring&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0annual Undergraduate Writing Symposium<\/strong><\/a> by Friday, January 10, 2025.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/writing\/faculty\/nominations\/#Consultantnom\">Nominate your students for our <strong>2024-2025 Undergraduate Writing Consultant Positions<\/strong><\/a> by Friday, January 17, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Submitting a nomination is quick and easy, and we&#8217;ve streamlined the process with our consolidated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/writing\/faculty\/nominations\/\">Faculty Nominations page<\/a> with embedded nomination submission forms for both opportunities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>To keep up with all the latest from Writing Studio,<\/strong> you can also <a href=\"https:\/\/redcap.vanderbilt.edu\/surveys\/?s=FRNLTDAAECXL7FY7\">subscribe to our monthly\u00a0Faculty Newsletter<\/a>. We&#8217;ll keep you in the loop with information on current and upcoming events, programming, and opportunities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Two Calls for Faculty Nominations<\/h2>\n<h3>Call for <strong>Undergraduate Writing Symposium<\/strong> Nominations<\/h3>\n<p>Help us celebrate your students\u2019 achievements as writers! We are seeking faculty nominations of strong undergraduate writing across two categories to be considered for inclusion in the 17th annual Undergraduate Writing Symposium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> Faculty Symposium Nominations are due Friday, January 10, 2025<\/p>\n<h4>symposium nomination categories: First-year essays and advanced research writing<\/h4>\n<h5><strong>First-Year Essays<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Nominations of\u00a0<strong>current first-year students\u2019 essays<\/strong>\u00a0and other compositions (including multimedia projects) from\u00a0<strong>Fall 2024<\/strong>\u00a0are sought for the Undergraduate Writing Symposium.<\/p>\n<p>We seek nominations of first-year undergraduate writing of all types and from across the university, but note that we will be asking nominators to nominate within these two buckets this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All first-year undergraduate essays, compositions, and multimedia projects\u00a0<strong>excluding \u201cBeing Human\u201d assignments<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u201cBeing Human\u201d (Core 1010) major assignments\n<ul>\n<li>Given the number of first-year students taking part in the extended pilot of the new A&amp;S First-Year Core, we are creating a separate nomination bucket for the essays from \u201cBeing Human\u201d (Core 1010).<\/li>\n<li>This year\u2019s symposium will include a space to showcase writing and writers from the new A&amp;S Core, and we hope to receive nominations for strong examples of all of the major \u201cBeing Human\u201d assignments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regardless of bucket, all first-year student submissions will be considered for inclusion in both the symposium and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/ejournals.library.vanderbilt.edu\/index.php\/UWS\">Scaffold: A Showcase of Vanderbilt First-Year Writing<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Advanced Research Writing<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Nominations of upper-division students\u2019 advanced writing projects, including those produced for Honors, Independent Study, or Immersion, sought for the Undergraduate Writing Symposium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submit a <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/writing\/faculty\/nominations\/#UWSnom\"><strong>symposium nomination<\/strong> via our consolidated faculty nominations page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Save the Date for the 2025 undergraduate writing Symposium:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>2025 Undergraduate Writing Symposium: Friday, March 28, 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Call for Undergraduate Writing Consultant Nominations<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> Faculty Consultant Nominations are due by Friday, January 17, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Help the Writing Studio keep going strong by nominate a student to join the Writing Studio\u2019s staff as Undergraduate Writing Consultants for 2025-26.<\/p>\n<p>We seek nominations of students of all majors and from diverse backgrounds.
