College of Arts and Science
Dissertation Writers’ Mini-Retreat
March 6-7, 2017
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Writing Studio, the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research for the College of Arts and Science, the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School, and the Graduate Development Network
The Writing Studio’s dissertation writers’ retreats are meant to provide dissertating graduate students with loosely-structured time to work individually in a quiet, collegial atmosphere. We couple ample writing time with optional, one-on-one consultations and daily workshops meant to focus writers on their argumentation, chapter structure, and daily writing goals. Lunch will be provided each day, courtesy of the Graduate School.
To access the application click here. Be sure to complete the form by February 20, 2017. You will be prompted to give thoughtful, detailed answers to the following questions:
- On which portion of your dissertation do you intend to work during the retreat?
- Describe your specific writing goals for the week: what will you have accomplished by week’s end, and how do you intend to distribute that work over the course of the week?
- What specific challenges do you anticipate facing as you work on this portion of the dissertation?
Space in the retreat is limited. We use your answers to these questions to select those applicants who seem most ready to benefit from the retreat’s format of loosely structured writing time. Those selected to participate will be invited by February 27, and asked to confirm their attendance by March 2.
