Dissertation Writers’ Retreat

May 18-22nd, 2015

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

SPONSORED BY THE WRITING STUDIO, THE OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL, AND THE GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT NETWORK

PhD students often use their summers to make significant headway on their dissertations. This May, the Writing Studio will help to start the summer off right for a select group of dissertation writers by providing a structured environment for five days of writing and revision. These days will include significant individual writing time, optional one-on-one consultations with trained writing consultants, brief goal-setting sessions, and the option to attend afternoon mini-workshops to learn and practice relevant writing techniques. Lunch will be provided each day, courtesy of the Graduate School.

To access the application click here. Be sure to complete the form by Friday, April 17th, 2015. You will be prompted to give thoughtful, detailed answers to the following questions:

  • On which portion of your dissertation do you intend to work during the retreat?
  • Describe your specific writing goals for the week: what will you have accomplished by week’s end, and how do you intend to distribute that work over the course of four days?
  • What specific challenges do you anticipate facing as you work on this portion of the dissertation?

Space in the retreat is limited, and we use applicant’s answers to these questions to select those who seem most ready to benefit from the retreat’s format of loosely structured writing time.

Those selected to participate will be invited by April 28th, and asked to confirm their attendance by May 4th.
