Image-Guided Liver Surgery

Liver cancer is the number two cancer killer worldwide. In the US, metastatic liver disease in the liver often arises from colorectal primary sites. Surgical approaches have been proven as being the most effective treatment for liver tumors; yet only a small fraction of surgical candidates get surgery. The development of image-guidance techniques for the liver are enabling more surgeries and thus bring the best outcomes to these patients. Continuing efforts focus on correcting for intraoperative deformations in the liver and the guidance of ablative tools.
