Image-Guided Minimally Invasive Liver Surgery
Reduction in trauma and blood loss are significant reasons for conducting minimally invasive surgical approaches to resection. However, these benefits come at the cost of increased environmental constrains, considerable visualization difficulty, limited surgeon access/mobility. With respect to open abdominal procedures, image guided procedures have been advanced considerably for the localization of vessels and tumors in the liver as an example. In this project, we are investigating capabilities to extend this paradigm to the challenging minimally invasive surgical environment.
