On Monday, September 19th, the Vanderbilt Healthcare Improvement Group (VHIG) hosted its first organizational meeting of the school year with the 2nd session of the VHIG Quarterly Lecture Series introduced last spring. At this session, we were proud to have Jeffrey Hill, MS, speak to the students about patient safety from an aviation perspective. Mr. Hill joined Vanderbilt as the Associate Director for Crew Resource Management in 2004 after spending many years working as a facilitator and developer of team training for both aviation and health care organizations. The event was very popular, with over 50 students from the schools of Management, Medicine, and Nursing attending. For those who were unable to make the event, we are proud to offer the talk online through YouTube:

We apologize for some faulty camerawork at the beginning of the video. The recording improves 5 minutes into the video. We hope to be able to offer online recordings of all future talks that are part of our quarterly lecture series!

After the talk by Mr. Hill, Tim Lockney, Co-President of VHIG, spoke to the students about opportunities to get involved in VHIG, including our Fundamentals of QI Elective, 4th Year Medical Student QI Practicum, various officer positions, and research opportunities in patient safety and quality improvement. Looking to get involved in VHIG?
