Kim Leslie Shafer: 1979-80

Project Title: Foreign Private Investment and Economic Development

The Corning Traveling Fellowship, with which I traveled within eight Asian and five African countries, changed my worldview and radically deepened my appreciation for growing up in America in the late twentieth century -- insights that I have tried to pass on to my two children.  I went on to law school and private practice but also pursued my interest in politics working on the national staff of two Presidential campaigns. My subsequent few years as staff for the Senate Banking Committee ironically led me to Wall Street where I spent the bulk of my career as an investment banker.  In 2009 I returned to Washington working with the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.  For the past decade I have been mission focused combining these two career strands, focusing most recently on advancing Impact Investing.
