The FutureVU team turned a portion of Kensington Place into a park for Vanderbilt community members to enjoy last week in advance of beautification efforts slated to begin in mid-December.

The park featured several events from Nov. 8 to 12, including hosting food trucks like the Grilled Cheeserie, a yoga class sponsored by the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center and a tailgate planned by Vandy Fanatics, a student group that promotes school spirit during athletic events.

This effort was the second in a series of pop-up events aimed at turning outdoor campus spaces into green spaces for the Vanderbilt community to use. The FutureVU team designs these events to promote new ideas for land use on campus while actively engaging the community for feedback.

Planning for the pop-up park on Kensington was a collaborative effort among Vanderbilt’s FutureVU team, led by the Division of Administration, and representatives from the Dean of Students Office, Vanderbilt Student Government, undergraduate student representatives, Community, Neighborhood and Government Relations and the Division of Communications.

More pop-up events will be planned on campus throughout the academic year.
