Marie Casares
Women’s Tennis
Major: Civil Engineering

Why did you choose to attend Vanderbilt?
Because I was looking for a school with great academics, a solid tennis team, based in a medium sized city with good weather and Vanderbilt had it all.

What are your career goals?
Designing buildings and highways to shorten distances in Ecuador and make sure people have save shelter to live in.  Work in a company with my cousins doing this.

What does it take to be academically successful at Vanderbilt?
Putting in the work! There is really no secret: go to class, do your homework, read the textbook, study and learn what works best for you to be sucessful in tests and other assignments.

How do you manage your demanding schedule?
I plan what I have to do ahead of time and try to give my full attention to the task I am doing at the moment.

What is your ritual before taking a test?
I try to start studying several days ahead, sometimes a week before the date of the test.  I work problems or try to find sample tests online.  I get a good night’s sleep the day before and do the same things I would do in a regular day.

What is your favorite quote?
“You’re too blesses to be stressed.”-Anonymous
