SEAL News: February 21, 2009 – SEAL X Conference

Posted by on Saturday, February 21, 2009 in news.

Dear SEAL Members:

We received a record number of talk proposals this year, for the Annual Conference spanning April 16 to 18, at Vanderbilt University.

The Conference Committee has selected a terrific slate of talks for the Thursday and Friday portions of the conference. (More information about the Saturday portion appears below). You can find an alphabetical (by author) listing of all accepted talks, and a brief abstract of them, at this link:

It is now time to register for the conference. The registration form and instructions appear at this link:

http://law.vanderbilt.edu/seal/conferences/2009conference/2009conferenceregform.htm

The conference fee for all participants, including speakers listed on the website above, is $175.00. Please note that there is one missing item on the form (which will be fixed shortly). As a (strong) incentive for early registration, the registration fee increases to $250.00 for registrations received after Friday, March 13th. (If – in these times of economic excitement – you prefer to think of this as a $75.00 discount for early registration, rather than a $75.00 penalty for late registration, by all means do so.) Information about hotels will be posted on the website within a few days.

Be especially sure to note that, as previously announced — and in honor of both the 10th SEAL conference and the 200th Birthday of Charles Darwin, as well as the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species — all day Saturday will feature terrific, invited speakers on various matters at the intersection of law, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and morality. Further information about those talks will be forthcoming soon. But in the meantime, be sure to stay through Saturday night. Saturday culminates, and the conference closes, with dinner and a Keynote Speech by primatologist Frans de Waal.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the conference. This one is not to be missed.

If you run into any difficulty registering for the conference, please contact SEAL Administrative Assistant Christie Bishop at: seal@law.vanderbilt.edu.

Best regards,

Owen Jones & Jeff Stake
