Fitness at the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center

The Rec offers a variety of special events, clinics, group fitness classes, and personal training to help achieve a range of fitness goals.

The 1st-floor fitness area is a 14,000 square foot facility with a variety of cardiovascular equipment, selectorized machines, TRX training area, motion cage, Olympic lifting platforms, and free weights. Classes and clinics are held in the Fitness Center or in Rec classrooms to help members optimize their workout.

The 2nd-floor cardio loft is a 4,500 square foot space overlooking Vanderbilt athletic fields. This is another space with a wide range of cardiovascular equipment, stretching mats, expresso bikes, and a selectorized line for Life Fitness. Our fitness attendants are available during operational hours to answer any questions regarding facilities, equipment, and other customer service needs.

Biometric screenings are available for Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center members* by appointment and include height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and/or percent body fat. For an appointment contact:

Vandy Walks


Vandy Walks is a combined walking and lecture series brought to you by The Rec and Health Plus. Walks are offered May  -  October featuring various aspects of the Vanderbilt University campus. For additional information, contact

Walks are 12 Noon– 1 p.m. and begin at Rand Terrace


 Technical Boxing

This is a 5 week non-contact class that teaches the fundamental skills that every boxer needs.   You will learn how to master punches, blocks, and combos and move like a boxer.  The class is taught by USA Boxing Coach and certified personal trainer Tramaine Crook.
 Registration is required at Space is limited to 25 participants. Class attendees should come prepared with boxing gloves and hand wraps.
