A post-doctoral fellowship is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Sean S. Davies lab in the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, USA to study the role of bioactive lipids in atherosclerosis. Applicant will join dynamic group of investigators that form the HDL function in human disease Program Project Group funded by the NHLBI (HL116263-06A1).

The successful applicant will elucidate the role of bioactive lipids that are substrates for NAPE-PLD in regulating macrophage efferocytosis and in atherosclerosis. NAPE-PLD catalyzes both the biosynthesis of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and the inactivation of isolevuglandin-phosphatidylethanolamine (IsoLG-PE). Previous studies in the Davies lab have shown protective effects in Ldlr-/- mice of either enhancing the levels of PEA precursors or blocking precursors of IsoLG-PE. Relevant publications include https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32796843/ , https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30674978/, and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25751734/.

All applicants should have a PhD and/or MD with a good track record of peer-reviewed publications. A strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology is required. Candidates with experience with macrophage biology, lipid biochemistry, LC/MS/MS, confocal microscopy, or murine atherosclerosis studies will be given priority. Initial appointment is for 1 year, with possible annual extension up to 5 years of overall postdoctoral training, based on successful publication record and progress toward independent research career.

Interested individuals should email sean.davies@vanderbilt.edu the following: a cover letter, C.V. and the contact information of three people who could provide letters of reference. Please use the subject line: NAPE-PLD post-doc application.
