Position Detail

Seeking a post-doctoral candidate with interests in patient, physician, and stakeholder views regarding implementation of evidence-based care in prehospital (i.e., emergency medical services) settings, innovative delivery mechanisms of feedback reporting, and patient outcomes. Ideal candidate would have experience in qualitative research (e.g., analyzing data from focus groups, physician interviews, and national surveys), biomedical informatics, and/or implementation science.

The post-doctoral fellow will work with and be mentored by Dr. Michael Ward in the Department of Emergency Medicine Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Ideal candidates would have a strong interest in implementation of evidence-based care in prehospital (i.e., emergency medical services) settings, innovative delivery mechanisms of feedback reporting, and patient outcomes, and prior experience working with qualitative data (surveys, interviews, focus groups). Candidates with a strong interest in emergency medicine who have experience with large datasets but wish to develop their qualitative skills may also apply.

A key focus of the position will be working on an NIH-funded project that focuses on provider and stakeholder input (interviews, and user-centered design sessions) about how to deliver and improve guideline concordant care. Seeking to understanding the barriers and facilitators of evidence-based care in the delivery of emergency cardiac care.
Candidates will lead and collaborate on this project and be encouraged to develop an independent research portfolio using this and/or other ongoing projects. We expect approximately one third of the candidate's time to be dedicated to independent work and the remaining time dedicated to active projects. In addition to collaborations with Dr. Ward, candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the Emergency Medicine Research Division and the broader VUMC research community. 

Candidates should have a doctoral degree at the time that the post-doctoral fellowship begins (PhD in anthropology, biomedical informatics, psychology, or related field). Funding for this position is available for two years with a potential start date as early as September 2021.
