Position Detail

Postdoctoral position studying Coronavirus Evolution

Pediatrics

The Denison Laboratory at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN studies coronaviruses (CoVs), a family of plus-strand RNA viruses that comprise a variety of human and animal pathogens. Human disease ranges from mild common colds caused by widely circulating endemic CoV strains to severe and frequently fatal respiratory disease from zoonotic CoVs such as those responsible for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle-East respiratory syndrome (MERS). We use integrated virologic, biochemical, and genetic approaches for studies of MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and the model coronavirus, mouse hepatitis virus (MHV), to understand the replication, cell biology, and protein functions of CoVs. We further apply this knowledge to development of preventive and therapeutic countermeasures against emerging CoV infections.

We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to drive forward a research project focused on defining the role of viral replication fidelity in the regulation of CoV fitness, evolution, and pathogenesis.

Qualifications: PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field required. Virology experience preferred.
