Position Detail

The Department of Cardiac Surgery within the Section of Surgical Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery to join a team studying clinical outcomes in heart failure, heart transplant, and mechanical circulatory support/ECMO. Vanderbilt University Medical Center has the second largest heart transplant program in the country and the selected fellow will work with all department faculty and be mentored by Ashish Shah, M.D., Department Chair of Cardiac Surgery.

Start date: July 1, 2019

Training opportunities will be related to: involvement in various drug and device trials. Opportunities for involvement in donor organ procurement for transplant and observation of cardiac surgery cases are available. 

Job requirements will include a baseline knowledge of biostatistics, however, biostatisticians are present on campus that may aid in solidifying analyses for clinical outcomes projects. 

The appropriate candidate will have an MD/DO, a PhD, or both. Strong organizational skills are a must. Candidates must be self-motivated, able to write scientific manuscripts and proposals well, and have a track record of strong productivity. Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to be able to function well in team setting.
