Postdoctoral position in membrane biology with relevance to diet-induced obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Biological Sciences | |
An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Graham laboratory to study mechanisms of membrane biogenesis in eukaryotic cells. Current studies focus on how and why type IV P-type ATPases (P4-ATPases) recognize and transport their phospholipid substrate across membrane bilayers. We mutationally tune the substrate specificity of P4-ATPase and define the physiological consequences of the resulting membrane perturbation in systems ranging from budding yeast, human cell lines and genome-edited mice. P4-ATPase deficiency is linked to a number of diseases, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver disease and neurodegenerative diseases. An important goal is to understand the molecular basis for these disease associations. |
