Position Detail

Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunity in Human Neuroimaging at the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS)

Neurological Surgery

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work in the Brain Imaging and Electrophysiology Network (BIEN) laboratory at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee to begin on or about July 1, 2019. Dario Englot, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon-scientist and the principal investigator of the BIEN lab using functional and structural MRI techniques, as well as intracranial EEG, to better understand brain network pathophysiology in epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Brain networks involved in normal cognitive processes will also be examined in the lab.

This postdoc position will be focused on neuroimaging connectivity patterns in patients before and after surgery, and relating imaging signals to intracranial EEG data in the same patients. A major goal of the lab is to understand how seizures in epilepsy patients lead to dysfunction in brain networks related to cognition, behavior, and consciousness. We are also interested in how network analysis can improve clinical treatment, and in how networks may change after surgery.

Requirements: This position requires a Ph.D. in engineering, neuroscience, or a related field, with proficiency in MATLAB and/or computer programming. Prior experience in imaging is preferred but not required. Both pending Ph.D. graduates and individuals who have completed previous post-doc training will be considered. An excellent academic record is critical, including a history of high-quality publications, presentations at national meetings, and experience in submitting grant applications. Applicants must be reliable, honest, hard-working, independent, and possess excellent communication skills. A minimum time commitment of one year is expected, with the potential opportunity for renewal. Salary will be commensurate with University guidelines, and benefits will be provided.

How to Apply: Please email a CV, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and the contact information for two to three references to Dr. Dario Englot.
