Assistant Director of the Fisk-Vanderbilt Masters-to-PhD Bridge Program

The Fisk-Vanderbilt Master’s to Bridge Program has an opening for an Assistant Director starting immediately. The mission of the Fisk-Vanderbilt Bridge Program is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in STEM. The Assistant Director will help advance this mission through organizing activities and meetings, assisting in student recruitment and retention, including providing additional mentoring to students, leading the Professional Skills for Graduate School course at Fisk, and participating in the Bridge Program Steering Committee. The ideal candidate would have a STEM PhD and an interest in pursuing an administrative or teaching career track in academia. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Program Coordinators and Co-directors, but will have latitude to propose improvements to the program. This position will provide valuable training in teaching, administration and mentoring. Candidates will be supported in developing leadership and other skills needed for their intended career path. 

Job Responsibilities/Opportunities

• Help coordinate events such as the Bridge Program Research Celebration Day, Bootcamp and Evening Seminar Series and student social events
• Lead the coordination of the year-long Professional Skills course
• Assist with the website and coordinate social media
• Engage in student recruiting at National Conferences
• Participate and prepare minutes for the Bridge Steering Committee
• Provide additional mentoring to students, particularly in the Master’s phase and near PhD completion

Requirements/Desired Background

• STEM PhD is required
• Understanding of basic issues of diversity, equity and inclusion
• We encourage applications from underrepresented groups
• Applicants must be available for multi day travel to national conferences/meetings approximately 1-3 times a year. 

This is a one-year position beginning immediately after offer, and is renewable. Hiring decisions will be made irrespective of gender, race, religion or sexual preference.
