Position Detail

A postdoctoral position is immediately available to study the role of the airway epithelium in mucosal defense in health and in chronic airway diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care

A postdoctoral position is immediately available to study the role of the airway epithelium in mucosal defense in health and in chronic airway diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Our growing lab investigates how airborne irritants such as cigarette smoke alter epithelial structure in the airways and the implications of altered epithelial structure on mucosal immunity. Fellows would have an opportunity to train in multiple model systems including human lung tissue, a variety of in vivo models, and primary murine and human airway epithelial cells.

Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in stem cell/developmental biology, cell biology, immunology, or a related field. Proficiency in basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques is required; preference will be given to applicants with experience in stem cell/developmental biology of the lung, viral transduction systems, CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing, and/or advanced microscopy. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have a record of productivity as evidenced by publication history. A successful fellow will leave the program with a broad knowledge of epithelial biology in the lung and the role of the epithelium in host defense, a robust scientific skillset, and opportunities for presentation and publication. Interested applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a brief statement of interest, and 2-3 references to Bradley Richmond.
