Position Detail

A post-doctoral position is available to work on an exciting project to treat sepsis using a fluidic separation device.

Biomedical Engineering

A post-doctoral position is available to work on a new approach to the direct removal of bacteria from blood.  This is an interdisciplinary project with a number of objectives, including the scale-up of a functional device to the capacity necessary for treatment of animal models of sepsis.  This project involves the device design and fabrication, which includes reactive surface chemistries.  Work will be carried out with multiple strains of bacteria.  Research will be performed with other postdoctoral scholar(s) and predoctoral scholar(s) to provide a distribution of activities and opportunity to both leverage current expertise and expand capabilities for professional development.  This position also requires a willingness for organization and leadership of research, including assistance of junior scientists (predoctoral graduate students and undergraduate students).

A strong candidate will have demonstrated experience in microbiology, microfabrication, reactive chemistry for surface biofunctionalization and the use of rodent models.  The ability to develop mathematical models for fluidic development and compartment models for biodistribution analysis is preferred.

The position is for a post-doctoral research scholar who has received a doctoral degree in an appropriate biological or engineering field with expertise in microbiology, modern molecular and cellular biology and animal models.  Candidates with prior background in fabrication of fluidic devices or chemical functionalization of biomaterials are preferred, but candidates with demonstrated ability in nanobiotechnologies, generally, will be considered.  Prior demonstration of written and oral communication skills is required.
