Quarterly Estimated Tax for Fellowship Recipients

Posted by on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Postdoc Events.

If you are not having federal income tax withheld from your paychecks, which is typical for fellowship and training grant stipends/salaries, you may be responsible for making manual tax payments to the IRS up to four times a year. Filling out the Estimated Tax Worksheet in IRS Form 1040-ES will tell you whether payments are required and in what amount. This workshop walks you through how to fill out each line of the Estimated Tax Worksheet—or take a shortcut if you’re so inclined. It also addresses the common scenarios postdocs face, such as switching on to or off of fellowship mid-calendar year and being married to someone who has automatic income tax withholding.

This workshop is a series of self-paced modules with a live Q&A. The workshop is open July through September when the Q3 estimated deadline payment is due.

Please note: This workshop is only for VU postdoctoral research, trainees (job code: 9146) and VUMC research fellow trainees (job code: 9134).

If you are interested in participating in this workshop or have any questions, please email Faith Bishop.
