About

Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.

Plant Operations has been serving the University for many years. Vanderbilt Plant Operations is a diverse group of people over 400 strong. The department is comprised of architects, mechanics, skilled trades workers, construction managers, clerical assistants, IT professionals, engineers, groundskeepers, power plant operators, sustainability professionals, accountants and many more.

Plant Operations has a goal to provide the best possible experience for all of our customers: students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors. In most cases, Plant Operations work is “behind the scenes”; however, the end result is highly visible and consumable - from campus aesthetics to utilities essential for the University to function. All of Plant Operations efforts are directed toward support of the University as a center of scholarly research, informed and creative teaching, patient care, and service to the community and society at large.

Plant Operations has offices at three primary locations: the Bryan Building and Powerhouse on the main campus, the Maintenance Building on the Peabody Campus, and the Chestnut Building at 625 Chestnut Street.
