InstructionsPhotos show apparatus ( two 2-meter sticks and a basketball ) for demonstrating the concepts of 1. Rolling Without Slipping, and 2. The Velocity of any point in a body as the sum of the Velocity of the Center of Mass and the point's Velocity of Rotation about the center of mass. One starts the basketball from one end of the lecture table and forces it to roll without slipping to the other end of the stationary 2-meter stick by propelling it with the top 2-meter stick. Clearly the top two meter stick moves through 4m while the basketball moves through 2m. |
