Volunteer with Local Non-Profits

Below you’ll find a wide array of organizations, agencies, and offices across Middle Tennessee engaged in important and interesting work.  A list of these organizations can be downloaded here: List of Community Organizations by Interest Area.  We also encourage you to explore the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s website, Giving Matters, to browse organizations by issue area.  A really great resource!  Find it HERE.

Mission: Open Table Nashville is a “non-profit, interfaith community that disrupts cycles of poverty, journeys with the marginalized and provides education about issues of homelessness.”

Get Involved & Advocate Through One (or More!) of These Steps:

1) Donation Drives (food, sleeping bags, blankets, socks, camping supplies, “welcome home kits,” furniture, etc.)

2) Advocate, Agitate, Organize! Do power maps. Write letters and petitions to elected officials. Join with existing organizations. Organize rallies, demonstrations, etc.

3) Volunteer and Intern with Open Table Nashville and other groups

4) Educate and Raise Awareness about some of the “root causes” of these issues. (“To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost blind you draw large and startling figures.” – Flannery O’Connor)

5) Build Relationships! Carry things in your car or with you downtown that people need (water, socks, snacks, gift cards, hand warmers, etc.)
