MLK Joint Day of Service

The Office of Active Citizenship and Service invites you to join students from universities across Nashville in a weekend of action and reflection as we honor the efforts and contributions of Dr. King toward justice for all humankind on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. A number of non-profit organizations in Nashville will be hosting service opportunities during the MLK Joint Day of Service.


Some of the confirmed service sites include:


  • Second Harvest
  • Trevecca Urban Farm
  • Trevecca Towers
  • The Nashville Food Project
  • Operation Standdown
  • Room in the Inn
  • Letters to Veterans
  • Spruce Street Golden Manor
  • Preston Taylor Ministries
  • Knowles Home Assisted Living
  • Ride for Reading Warehouse
  • Tales of the Trail, Dog walking


Students interested in participating should complete the 2018 MLK Joint Day of Service Registration Form. Participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a specific service site the morning of the event. This program is eligible for MVE/GME credit.

There is free parking available for participants at TSU, and transportation to and from TSU and service sites is provided by the MLK Joint Day of Service Committee. Discounted Lyft codes will be available to Vanderbilt students for transportation to and from Vanderbilt and TSU. Students can also use the University Connector free of charge with their student IDs. The University Connector picks up at West End & 31st and Wedgewood & 21st and stops off at TSU.


MLK Joint Day of Service Schedule:

11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. – Sign-in/ Registration and Lunch at TSU (pizza)
12:00 -12:30 p.m. – Presentation/ Speaker at TSU
12:45 p.m. – Depart for Service Sites
1:00 – 3:30 p.m. – Serving at service sites
4:00 p.m. – Reflection + snacks at TSU
4:30 p.m. – End
