PhD, University of Michigan
Lucie Kalousová received her Ph.D. in Sociology and Health Services Organization and Policy from the University of Michigan in 2017. Before moving to Vanderbilt, she was an assistant professor of sociology at the University of California-Riverside and a Postdoctoral Prize Fellow in Sociology at Nuffield College, Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Kalousová studies the links between the distribution of socioeconomic resources and the health of populations, and she investigates the origins and persistence of population health disparities in the middle- to high-income countries. In another related line of inquiry, she has studied how and to what extent material hardship mediates the path between economic cycles and individual health. Additionally, she has addressed questions related to the contingency of unequal outcomes, such as under what circumstances inequality in resources translates to health disparities, the political roots, and the political consequences of health disparities.
Her research has appeared in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Social Science & Medicine, Annual Review of Sociology, and Population Research and Policy Review, Health Policy and Planning, and other outlets.
