Hysitron TI 980

The Hysitron TI 980 Triboindenter provides state-of-the-art nanomechanical and nanotribological testing for a wide range of materials. The capabilities of the TI980 include quantitative nanoscale-to-microscale indentation, nanoscratch, nanowear, high-resolution in-situ scanning probe microscopy (SPM) imaging, dynamic nanoindentation, and high-speed mechanical property mapping, all of which are aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of material behavior at the nanoscale. An optional xSol high temperature stage and humidity generator allow nanomechanical and nanotribological measurements to be performed at temperatures up to 800°C for samples with/without hygroscopic behavior, while the optional electrochemical nanoindentation (ECNI) cell enables nanoindentation testing, scratch testing, or SPM imaging to be performed on a sample in a fluid/hydrated condition.

Usage of the TI 980 Triboindenter is charged on an hourly basis. All training and reservations for the Triboindenter are handled via MDERFH’s iLab Core.
