Posted by on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in Projects.

Students will analyze and discuss the information related to the United Nations 17 Sustainability Development Goals on the “Les Objectifs de développement durable” website. In small groups, they will choose one francophone country and 5 of the 17 United Nations goals. After doing some research, students will use Utellstory.com to illustrate how they would implement the 5 chosen goals in their country of choice. Each goal will be represented by an image, an explanatory text, and an oral narrative. ACTFL interpretive, interpersonal and presentational communication modes will be activated as well.

Project Description:

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace, and justice. The Goals interconnect, and in an effort to leave no one behind, they are meant to be achieved by 2030. You can click on any specific Goal in the infographic to learn more about each issue.

After researching the 17 goals on the website Objectifs de développement durable, students will choose one francophone country and 5 goals to be implemented in that country. They will discuss ways to implement them according to the socio-economic and cultural background of that specific country. Finally, they will use Utellstory.com to illustrate the 5 chosen goals and a way to implement each of them. Each picture will be explained by a caption and will have an oral narrative recorded by the students thanks to the various features of Utellstory. Learners will also write a professional email inviting colleagues to attend an oral presentation during which they will showcase their Utellstory to convince them to take part in a similar endeavor.

Students will work on the following ACTFL communication modes:
Interpretive, interpersonal and presentation

Students will work on the following language skills:
Reading, writing, oral.
