New International Student Spring Orientation

Vanderbilt University and International Student and Scholar Services welcomes you to campus and Spring Orientation! These 2 days of programs and sessions are designed to welcome you and acclimate you to the university. International Student Orientation is required for all new Vanderbilt F-1 and J-1 students and include the following:

  • Information sessions about your F/J status
  • Mandatory Immigration Check-in
  • Campus resource presentations
  • Shuttles to grocery stores
  • Networking opportunities

Please read below for more information.


  1. Submit the Pre-Arrival Form to inform us of your travel plans. Submission of the form is required prior to requesting airport pickup through Lyft.
  2. Review all Learning Content in your ISSS portal and upload your immigration documents prior to arrival*. The I-94 entry can be uploaded after arrival to the U.S.
  3. If you would like to purchase a linen package, payment can be provided prior to arrival to reserve your item online. Linen packages are $50 USD and include the following: bath towel, Twin XL sheet set, fleece blanket, and pillow.
  4. Review the Spring Orientation schedule below and plan on attending all events.

Move-In Day: Jan. 3rd, 2019 | 8 am-6 pm | SLC Suite 109

New students who will be living on campus are authorized to move-in between 8 am and 6 pm on Thursday, January 3rd at the ISSS office (Student Life Center, Suite 109). Students will check-in and be able to pickup their room keys and Commodore Cards at this time. Volunteers will be available to assist with luggage, if needed. Additionally, linen packages are available for purchase for $50 and are credit card only. Earlier arrivals cannot be accommodated. If you are planning to arrive in Nashville earlier than the 3rd, you will need to find temporary accommodations at a nearby hotel, airbnb, etc. 

If arriving after 6 pm, please head directly to the front desk of Branscomb Lobby to collect your room key and card.

PLEASE NOTE: The ISSS office, as well as other university offices and departments, will be closed from Monday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Jan. 1 for official university break. ISSS will reopen on Wednesday Jan. 2 for normal business hours. Please be mindful of these closing ours when scheduling your arrival to Nashville. If you have an immediate need to speak with an advisor while the office is closed, please contact the Vanderbilt University Operator at (615) 322-7311.

Make-up Orientation Session | Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019

If you were unable to attend the Maintaining Your F/J Status and On-campus Employment Session on Friday, Jan. 4, then you must attend the make-up session on this day.
