The NIH has issued a new policy (effective September 25, 2017) to streamline the review process for NIH-funded, multi-site clinical research studies in the United States. The policy sets the expectation that multi-site studies conducting the same protocol use a single IRB to carry out the IRB review.

The Vanderbilt Human Research Protection Program (VHRPP) has created a Single IRB (sIRB) team to assist the Vanderbilt research community. This session will introduce the team and outline the process for investigators as they prepare to implement single IRB review for their NIH-funded multi-center studies.  The sIRB team will discuss the resources currently available on the website to provide guidance with regard to developing plans for single IRB review, grant template language, assistance creating submissions in DISCOVR-E, and facilitating reliance agreements with other sites.
