World On Wednesdays presents: “Women in Islam: Case Studies from Pakistan and Morocco”
Presented by: Marwah Shahid
While the media portrays women as nothing more than oppressed victims of their society, Marwah would like to use personal anecdotes from Morocco and Pakistan to express the culture of Muslim women that she has witnessed and what she has done to change the attitudes of Muslim women and men as well as the stereotypes that Americans have of Muslim women. She proposes a solution to use religion and tradition as a means to promote female empowerment. Lunch will be provided.
When: Wednesday, Mar. 13, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
