Registrations can be completed at the Office of Campus Recreation from 9 am – 5 pm Mon. – Fri. Each house-s vice president will be responsible for assisting the Office of Campus Recreation in promoting and registering teams for both the Commons sporting events and intramural sports. Name the Clam Jan 6th - Jan 13th
We have a new addition to the Rec and Wellness center. Unfortunately our 7 year old clam doesn-t have a name. So we need YOUR help!
On a piece of paper write your name, e-mail address, and what you think we should name our clam and drop it in by the tank.
The contest ends Jan 13th and the judges will name the winner on Jan 20th.
Winner receives a $10 Smoothie King Gift Card.
Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center Field House is now OPEN.
Field House hours of operation are the same as the Recreation Center.
Field House is reserved and unavailable during the following hours:
Monday through Friday
6:00 am – 8:00 am
2:00 pm – 7:30 pm
9:00 am – 1:00 pm
2:00 pm – 7:30 pm
No food or drinks other than water in the Field House. Do not exit the Field House through the emergency doors. An alarm will sound.

Registration for the 5 on 5 indoor soccer leagues will be Jan 6 - 10. Registration fee is $10 / team. Register in the Office of Campus Recreation Monday – Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm. Games begin Jan 19th through end of season.
Master Boot Camp Class

Strength and Conditioning Clinic

The Running Form Running clinic provides an overview of the most important components and drills to help you run with efficient running form. Limited to 20 participants. An evening with Appalachian Trail endurance hiker and 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year: Jennifer Pharr Davis

Her latest book, Called Again, chronicles her 2011 record-breaking trek, completing the Appalachian Trail in 46 days. She achieved this by speed hiking an average of 47 miles a day. Join us for this world-class athlete-s inspiring story of adventure, hardship, pain, and triumph.

Intro to Climbing Anchors
This session is designed to teach participants the basics of setting up two bolt climbing anchors. On Jan., 13th, at 5 pm at the climbing wall. We will discuss a variety of topics including: knots, anatomy of anchors, carabineer selection, and principles of safe anchor practices. Prior climbing experience is not required. Duration: 1 - 1.5 hours. Registration not required.
Let-s Get Knotty
Do you struggle to understand the difference between bights, bends, and loops? Is the concept of tying a hitch more overwhelming than tax day? Then this classroom session is for you! On Jan. 14, at 5 PM we will cover a variety of commonly used knots and hitches to enhance your understanding and knowledge of rope work. Duration: 1 hour. Location to be announced. Tue, Jan 14 from 4 - 6 pm come join some of the Outdoor Rec. staff around the campfire (using our portable fire pit on the new concrete) for s -mores, the American way at the Concrete Courtyard, in between the Student Rec. Center and the new Field house. We will have camp chairs and provide the marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers and even some marshmallow forks for you to use. There is NO cost; just bring your own water bottle as these tasty treats will make you thirsty.
Master Class 1
A sampling of multiple styles of group fitness and aerobics. Come join us for all or part of this class. There will be multiple instructors. Jan., 15th from 5 to 6:30 pm, location to be announced. No reservations needed.
Stroke and Turn Clinics
To provide stroke instruction for swimmers of all ages and abilities to improve their speed, efficiency, and endurance. Swim Clinics focuses on the swimmer-s individual abilities and works to perfect their strokes through drills, verbal and physical reinforcement and conditioning. Registration not required. Clinic held Jan., 15th, 20th and 21st from 11:30 am to noon.
Family Swim Night on Fri, Jan 17th from 6 to 8 pm
Vanderbilt faculty and staff are invited to bring their families to a free swim at the Campus Recreation pool from 6 to 8 p.m. One guest is allowed per child. Bring your staff ID and your own towel. For more information, call 343-6627.
Demonstration Kitchen Class
Come learn how to make easy snacks for studying- using only your microwave! January 21st from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in the Demonstration Kitchen on the first floor of the Rec Center.
Come to this exhibition class an experience a blend of Pilates and Yoga. January 23rd, at 5:30 pm, location to be announced. No reservations needed.
Ever wanted to teach aerobics??? Learn the bare basics of teaching group fitness. Anatomy, kinesiology and more. Taught by Becky Harrison M.Ed, January 26th, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm, location to be announced. No reservations needed.
Swim Lessons Dates: Jan 27 - Mar 27
Both Group and Private lessons are offered year-round. Group lessons are offered for children at beginner levels and aimed to help children feel comfortable in the water and teach beginner level skills. Private lessons are offered to both children and adults. These lessons focus on your needs, ranging from bubble-blowing to improving stroke technique and efficiency in the water for competitive swimmers and triathlon participants.

Always wanted to play racquetball but were not sure how. Maybe you need a brush up on the rules or shot selection. This clinic is for you then. Tuesday evening-s classes will feature an introduction to the rules and basic shots will be taught. Starting January 27th and running for three weeks this class will introduce you to a lifetime sport for a lifetime of fun.
Always wanted to try a new sport? Interested in learning more about a certain sport? This is for you. Our Sport Club program will be hosting several play nights in January where they will demonstrate and give you a chance to try something new. Wilderness First Aid Course
Dates: Sat., Feb. 8 and Sun., Feb. 9
Time: 9 am - 5 pm both days
Location: V.U. Outdoor Recreation Center
Registration has begun.
This course is designed to prepare individuals who program, recreate, and enjoy the outdoors to encounter medical emergencies in a back country setting with confidence and competence. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field based exercises, participants will gain valuable experience in addressing the needs of outdoor based emergencies. Over the course of the 16 hrs, or two 8 hour days, participants will learn: patient assessment, patient stabilization, comprehensive first aid and a variety of improvised implementation methods, as well as learn the skills necessary to implement patient evacuation.
