Oct. 15 (Sat)
WHITEWATER KAYAKING (Beginner to Intermediate) @ Hiwassee River, TN
Cost:    $73           Sign-up by:   Mon, Oct. 10     Pre-Trip Meeting:  Wed, Oct. 12 at 5 PM
Tennessee-€™s scenic Hiwassee River is fantastic for boaters of all abilities to practice the fundamentals like eddy turns, peeling out, ferrying and reading water. This trip is designed for kayakers who have mastered the roll in the pool and are ready to try moving water and rapids.   It is preferred that you have some flat water kayaking experience before signing up for this trip. Paddling equipment, including a spray jacket, is included.     This trip is limited to the first 6 people who sign up. Estimated trip duration:   7 AM -€“ 10 PM.

Oct. 16 (Sun)
KAYAK TOURING    @ Cordell Hull Lake, TN
Cost:   $36                Sign-up by:   Mon, Oct. 10 Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct. 11 at 5 PM
Kayak touring is easy to learn and fun.    We will spend part of the day paddling around the scenic Cordell Hull Lake, located a little over an hour away.   With any luck we-€™ll see some pretty fall colors along the wooded shorelines.   Beginners are welcome.   All paddling equipment is provided.       Estimated trip duration:   8 AM -€“ 5 PM.

DOWNHILL SKIING &/or SNOWBOARDING @ Steamboat Springs, CO
Cost: $1,054 for the VU all the Way package, OR $721 to Meet us in Denver,  OR $545 to Meet us in Colorado
Sign-up by:   Tue, Oct. 11         Pre-Trip Meeting:   Wed, Oct. 26 at 6 PM
Join us for our 16th annual semester break ski/snowboard trip!   The price includes air (RT: Nashville to Denver) and   bus transportation to our condo, 5 nights lodging, and a 4-day lift ticket to Steamboat Springs, Ski Town USA, with 165 named trails and 16 lifts.     We will be staying in the Lodge Condominiums, located 200 yards from the slopes.     These large condos have the usual, plus free wifi and laundry facilities on the premises.   There is also an indoor hot tub, two outdoor hot tubs, and an outdoor heated swimming pool.   We  have more ski trip info on the web.     Check out our site at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/outrec/ski/index.html.

HIKING @ Stone Door, South Cumberland State Park, TN
Cost:   $26                   Sign-up by: Fri, Oct. 14         Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct. 18 at 5 PM
South Cumberland is home of the Great Stone Door, awesome overlooks, and wonderful waterfalls.   We will be hiking about 10 miles of trails, rated easy to moderate.   Spend a day at one of the best parks in Tennessee.  With any luck we will see lots of fall colors.   Estimated trip duration:   7 AM -€“ 8 PM. 

Oct. 28-29 (Fri. – Sat.)
CAMPING and HIKING @ Standing Stone State Park, TN
Cost:   $45              Sign-up by:   Fri, Oct. 21                Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct. 25 at 6 PM
We will camp Friday night, and then spend part of Saturday hiking the 5-mile Bryan-€™s Fork Lake Trail.   The trail, rated -€œmoderate-€, follows the lake at times, and also goes up a ridge to a nice overlook.   The fall colors could be pretty spectacular!    We can also drive to Burgess Falls State Park on the way back to VU and see 3 impressive waterfalls in just 1.5 miles of hiking.  Estimated trip duration: 6 PM Fri -€“ 7 PM Sat.

Oct. 30   (Sun)
TRAIL BUILDING @ Beaman Park, Nashville, TN
Cost:  * FREE *         Sign-up by:   Fri, Oct. 21 Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct. 25 at 5 PM
Beaman Park is a relatively new park in Nashville that is being developed as a more natural park, rather than a -€œball field park-€.   This time we will help build a trail that will loop back to the Nature Center from the boardwalk.   Experienced trail volunteers and equipment will be provided to help us.   Lunch is also provided, and hiking afterward is an option. Estimated trip duration:   12:00 PM -€“ 6 PM.

To sign up for a trip, come to the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC), located on 2600 Children’s Way, kind of behind the Student  Rec.
