Intramural Registration
Registrations can be completed at the Office of Campus Recreation from 9 am – 5 pm Mon. – Fri. Each house-€™s vice president will be responsible for assisting the Office of Campus Recreation in promoting and registering teams for both the Commons sporting events and intramural sports. Smoothie King is now open in the Vanderbilt Student Recreation Center.

Steel beams are being erected for the recreation center-€™s field house and light poles on the Natchez Field are being reconfigured.

The expansion on the southwest corner of the Rec is well underway. This area will host more fitness room space and multi-purpose rooms.

It is the mission of the Office of Campus Recreation (OCR) to assist in the development and education of the whole person. The Office achieves this goal by providing comprehensive fitness, recreation, and wellness programs in a state of the art facility to the diverse population of students and the Vanderbilt community at large. The wide variety of programs provide opportunities to develop the individual’s positive self-esteem, relationships with others, and effective communication and leadership skills. The Student Recreation Center additionally serves as an avenue for individuals to achieve a stress free, holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle.


Information about clubs may be obtained through the OCR or by contacting the club-€™s coach or faculty advisor. Telephone numbers are listed in the VU Directory and available through the OCR. All classes / clinics are taught by qualified instructors and open to all students, faculty and staff. Classes operate on monthly basic. Clinics are scheduled one day for approximately one hour. For a list of our classes, please check out our website at


A host of programs, services, facilities and equipment are available for recreational pursuits. Included are weight room, lighted outdoor sand volleyball court, swimming pool, indoor tract, mat room, dance room, racquetball and squash courts, basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, and much, much more.


The Wellness Resource Center is on the first floor lounge area of the Recreation Center. It-€™s open Mon & Tue, 12 – 7 pm, Wed & Thu, 1 pm -€“ 7 pm, Fri, 12 pm -€“ 7 pm, and Sun 3 – 7 pm. This exciting facility provides fitness assessments, body – fat testing, registered dietician, WellBytes! – our online wellness newsletter, and resources (video, books, pamphlets) on virtually every wellness topic from sports injuries to eating disorders. Trips are offered for the following activities: Backpacking, Canoeing, Camping, Climbing, Hiking, Kayaking, Spelunking and Whitewater Rafting. A variety of quality outdoor equipment is available for rent: Sleeping Bags, Tents, Backpacks, Cooking Gear, Kayaks and much, much, more!  We are located behind the Rec. Center. Call 343-8182.


Job opportunities are available for staff assistants, intramural supervisors, officials, tournament coordinators, lifeguards, aerobics instructors and recreation center workers. All positions are paid with flexible scheduling possible. Contact ORC for information.

Now hiring  Swim Instructors  and  Lifeguards  for Spring / Summer 2013.

Swim Instructors: Swim Instructors are needed for both private and group lessons. Previous experience required.

Lifeguards: Lifeguards are needed for recreational swimming, lap swimming and OCR programs. Duties include opening and closing pool, enforcing pool rules and swimmer safety. Each lifeguard must possess a current lifeguard and CPR-professional rescuer certifications.

Pay is $8.00 per hour

Vanderbilt Swim School is now offering Private Swim Lessons

Private Lessons are offered for ages 2+ and  focus on the participant-€™s needs, ranging from becoming comfortable in the water to improving stroke technique and efficiency.  VSS Private Lesson registrations and payments must be received in the Office of Campus Recreation before 12:00 Noon on the Thursday before the upcoming week of lessons. Four 40-minute lessons for $150

Be sure to register as soon as possible. Class size is limited to 15 participants based on first come, first served and will fill up quickly!

Cost: $120 (Payment is due at the time of registration. Please make checks payable to Vanderbilt University.)
