KAYAK TOURING @ Cordell Hull Lake, TN

Kayak touring is easy to learn and fun.     We will spend part of the day paddling around the scenic Cordell Hull Lake, located a little over an hour away.   With any luck we-€™ll see some pretty fall colors along the wooded shorelines. Beginners are welcome. All paddling equipment is provided. Estimated trip duration:   8 am -€“ 5 pm.

OCT. 26 – 27 (Sat. – Sun.)
BACKPACKING @ Fiery Gizzard Trail, SCRA, TN
Cost: $50   //   Sign-up by:   Fri, Oct. 18   //   Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct 22 at 6 pm
The Fiery Gizzard Trail is a very rewarding hike. The 12.3 mile trail leads to cascading streams, waterfalls, and panoramic overlooks. This trip is designed for the experienced backpacker or the ambitious beginner. The trail is very rocky (and difficult) in places, and easy in other places. Overall, the reward is well worth the effort. Estimated trip duration:   7 am Sat. -€“ 6 pm Sun.

HIKING @ Hidden Passage Trail, Pickett State Park, TN
Cost: $29   //   Sign-up by:   Fri, Oct. 25   //   Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Oct 29 at 5 pm
This is a spectacular 10-mile (moderately difficult) trail located in Pickett State Park. Massive layers of sandstone provide many attractive features, such as tunnels, bluffs, natural bridges, and beautiful overlooks. Hopefully we will still see some fall colors. No experience is necessary.  Estimated trip duration:   7 am -€“ 9 pm.

Cost: $115   //   Sign-up by: Fri, Oct. 25   //   Pre-Trip Meeting: Tue, Oct 29 at 6 pm
Join the Outdoor Rec. climbing team for a fall weekend of crushing at one of the country-€™s premier climbing destinations. We will depart Vanderbilt on Friday evening and drive to Slade Kentucky to camp for the night. Our next two days we will be spent sun up to sun down climbing and see us back in Nashville late on Sunday evening. This trip is designed for climbers of all abilities. So, whether you-€™re a seasoned veteran or looking to try your hand at the real thing for the first time, this is a trip not to be missed! Space is limited to 8 participants, so don-€™t delay! Estimated trip duration: 5 pm Fri. -€“ 10 pm Sun

WINTER BREAK

(Intermediate to Advanced)   CLIMBING & CAMPING @ Joshua Tree National Park, CA
Cost: $610 + your RT airfare to Las Vegas   //   Sign-up by:   Fri, Oct 18   /   Pre-Trip Meeting:   Wed, Oct. 23 at 5 pm
Come join us at one of the BEST ROCK CLIMBING AREAS IN THE WORLD! J Tree has something for everyone with enough cracks, faces, roofs, arêtes and slabs to satisfy even the best climbers. With several thousand climbs to choose from, we will have no problem finding 5 star routes to enjoy all week. While we aren-€™t climbing we will be chilling in our group camp site nestled amongst the boulders and hiking trails.   We will climb at J Tree for 3-4 days then head back to Vegas where we will get in some extra time climbing on the beautiful red sand stone of Red Rocks Conservation area before flying home. Plan to meet us in Las Vegas and then drive to the park. Prior climbing experience is required and participants should be able to comfortably climb 5.7 face and crack climbs.   Trip is limited to 6 participants, so don-€™t delay.Cost includes: van transportation, food while camping, group equipment, climbing gear (except shoes), camping and entrance fees. Cost DOES NOT INCLUDE your flight to or from Las Vegas.   More info & flight times will be discussed at the first Pre-Trip Meeting.

To sign up for a trip, come to the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC), located on 2600 Children’s Way, kind of behind the Student  Rec.
