CAMPING & HIKING @
Cumberland Mountain State Park, TN

We will camp Friday night, and then spend part of Saturday hiking the 5-mile   loop trail around Byrd Lake   The trail, rated -€œeasy-€, follows the lake at times, and also goes through some rhododendron and some nice pine forests, while crossing many creeks.   We can also drive to (and a short hike to) the rocky outcrops on top of Black Mountain.   Another option is Ozone Falls, a short hike to an impressive 110 foot waterfall.   Estimated trip duration: 6 PM Fri -€“ 7 PM Sat.

CLIMBING, BOULDERING, & CAMPING @ Bishop / Owens River Gorge, CA

** This trip is for Intermediate to Advanced Climbers **

Cost:     $460 + your airfare to Las Vegas, NV

Kick off your summer with a climbing trip to one of the West-€™s most renowned climbing areas, Bishop, California!   Just on the leeward side of the high sierra, the Bishop area is home to breath taking scenery and did we mention some the countries best climbing!?!?   Over the course of this week long trip we explore three different bouldering areas each boasting hundreds of problems to test your strength.   In addition to being centrally located to world class boulders, this trip will spend some time exploring the cliffs of the Owens River Gorge.   This gorge is one of the highest concentrations of quality sport climbing in the great state of California.   While the walls offer a wealth of easier climbs, there is a huge variety of 5.10 to 5.11 climbing to be had.   Prior climbing experience is required, and this trip is limited to 6 PARTICIPANTS, SO DON-€™T DELAY SIGNING UP.   More information can be found at www.vanderbilt.edu/outrec.

Trip cost will cover local van transportation while out West, in-camp food, group equipment, and lodging/camping/permit fees.   NOTE: You must provide your own airfare to Las Vegas, NV.

WHITEWATER   KAYAKING   @ Clear Creek, TN
** This trip is for Beginner Kayakers **

If April showers bring us enough rain, then we-€™re off to paddle the beautiful waters of Clear Creek. This is a fantastic destination for beginner paddlers looking for something a bit more challenging than the Hiwassee. The consistent elevation drop and fun turns through the boulders are enough for even seasoned boaters to enjoy. Experience is necessary and a solid roll is a must.   This trip is limited to the first 6 people who sign up.  Estimated trip duration:   7 AM to 10 PM.

LAKE CLEAN-UP / CANOEING @ Cordell Hull Lake, TN

At points during our hike along the north side of the lake we have noticed trash washed up on the former shorelines from the summer before.   By canoeing around the lake, we can stop and pick up trash, using the canoes to do the hauling.   This is a pretty area worthy of our time.   Beginners are welcome.   All paddling equipment is provided.   Estimated trip duration:   8 AM -€“ 5 PM.

WHITEWATER RAFT & CAMP @ Ocoee River, TN
Cost: $97                             Sign-up by:   Fri, Mar 30                                     Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tue, Apr 10 at 6 PM

Whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River is packed with fun and excitement on back-to-back rapids!   After camping out Friday night, we will be guided down the mighty Ocoee in rafts of 5-6 paddlers each.   As a bonus, the Ocoee River is located in a beautiful gorge.    No experience is necessary.   Est. trip duration:   6 PM Fri. -€“ 7 PM Sat.

APR  14     (Sat)
CLIMBING @ Kings Bluff, TN

** This trip is for Beginner Climbers **

Cost:   $20 Sign-up by: Fri, Apr 6 Pre-Trip Meeting:   Tuesday, Apr. 10 at 5 pm

Wall climbers, it-€™s time to try the -€œreal thing-€!   Kings Bluff is a great location for both beginner and intermediate climbers.   Some climbing experience is preferred, so try the wall first!   Shoe rental = $5.50 extra.     Estimated trip duration:   9 AM -€“ 5 PM.

APR 15 (Sat)
KAYAKING @ Harpeth River, TN
Cost: $33                             Sign-up by:   Fri, Apr 6                                             Pre-Trip Meeting:   Wednesday, Apr 11 at 5 PM
This 6.4-mile trip is designed specifically for the beginner kayaker.     The nearby Harpeth River is a gentle, State Scenic River, and kayaking is a great opportunity to paddle your own boat.   All equipment is included in the trip fee.   Estimated trip duration:   9 AM -€“ 4 PM.

To sign up for a trip, come to the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC), located on 2600 Children’s Way, kind of behind the Student  Rec.
