Homecoming Week 2013

Volleyball Tournament  -€“ Sunday, September 29th -€“ 2-4 PM, Magnolia Lawn

Each participating organization may enter teams of six to 10 people into Homecoming-€™s annual volleyball tournament. Brackets will be created for a single-elimination tournament. We will provide athletic-boosting refreshments!   Winning teams will be rewarded awesome prizes.

Commodore Blood Drive  -€“ Monday, Sept. 30th -€“ Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, 10 AM -€“ 4 PM, Sarratt 216/220

Be a potential lifesaver at the annual Homecoming Blood Drive hosted by the American Red Cross and APO. Whether you are a first-time donor or a frequent donor, blood is always in short supply and each donor has the potential to save three lives. Those unable to give blood may instead  volunteer to help staff the event. Please contact Allanah Jackson (allanah.l.jackson@vanderbilt.edu) or Annie Hill (anna.g.hill@vanderbilt.edu) to do so. For those participating in the Commodore Cup competition, points will be awarded to your organization for each donation. Banner Competition  -€“ must be displayed by Monday, September 30th at 4 PM

Organizations have the opportunity to display their school spirit and creativity through banners that will decorate campus throughout the week. Banners must have -€œVanderbilt Homecoming 2013,-€ -€œBattle of the Black and Gold,-€ and the organization-€™s name on them. One banner per organization. Greek organizations with chapter facilities may display them on the front of their houses; Greek organizations without exclusive-use facilities and Independent organizations should bring them to Sarratt Promenade to hang on the wall. Celebrity judges will evaluate the banners on the following criteria:

  • Originality/Creativity
  • School spirit
  • Incorporation of the -€œBattle of the Black and Gold-€ theme

The winning organizations will receive  Maggiano-€™s gift cards to be used toward an organization dinner.

Dinner & Trivia Night  -€“ Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, 6-8 PM, Rand Lounge

Participating organizations may enter a maximum of two teams of up to eight participants to outwit other organizations in an exciting trivia night. We will also be giving away  free koozies, and all students are welcome to enjoy some food and watch the action!   Prizes for winning teams will be announced soon!

Commodore Quake  -€“ Thursday, Oct. 3rd, 7 PM, Memorial Gymnasium

The 12th Annual Commodore Quake presents elite rap artists  Kendrick Lamar and  Wale on Thursday, October 3 at Memorial Gymnasium on the  Vanderbilt University campus in Nashville, Tenn. Doors open at 7:00 PM and University parking is free. Vanderbilt University-€™s Homecoming concert continues to deliver A-list musical acts for students, alumni and the public to enjoy.

Commodore Block Party  -€“ Friday, Oct. 4th, 7 -€“ 10 PM, Kensington Avenue

The Block Party is back again this year-€”this time on FRIDAY! Start your weekend right by enjoying music from student acts, food from Nashville restaurants, and inflatables!  Free neon sunglasses and  Homecoming t-shirts will also be distributed to students in attendance. Stick around till the end to hear this year-€™s awesome performer,  Biz Markie!

Ties for Tots -€“ Tuesday, Oct. 1st, 4-8 pm, Sarratt 325/327

Homecoming will be co-sponsoring a brand new philanthropy event with APO. Organizations may choose to enjoy refreshments and make one or two cut-and-tie blankets for the Vanderbilt Children-€™s Hospital!

Game Day Tailgate-€“ Saturday, Oct. 5th, 2 hours prior to kickoff, 24th and Kensington
Join the Homecoming Committee and Vandy Fanatics in celebrating game day on Kensington! There will be lots of food, giveaways, and live music!
